Player 6 — Tommy Smith
TOMMY SMITH
Bill Shankly once said “Tommy Smith wasn’t born, he was quarried” a fitting description for the original hardman of Liverpool. Born within spitting distance of Anfield there was no question that he was Reds through and through. He joined the ground staff at the age of 15 and within a few months he was playing for the reserve team. Smith initially played as a centre-forward which is proof that there was more to his game than bone-crunching tackles. However in 1964 he moved to central defence and never looked back. Nicknamed the ‘Anfield Iron’, Smith was an intimidating, powerful and aggressive defender who used psychological ploys to instill fear and trepidation in opposition players. An example of this was when Tottenham striker Jimmy Greaves came out at Anfield, Smith handed him a letter “What’s this?” he said, Smith replied “Just open it”….It was the menu from the Liverpool Infirmary! Smith was definitely someone you wanted on your side! 1 England Cap.

The Enforcers is a limited set of collectible NFT’s celebrating some of football’s legendary hardmen. Start with the base player card and blend them with ‘attribute cards’ to create bruised and battered versions of themselves which ultimately leads them to an overnight stay at Her Majesty’s pleasure! That’s right, locked up in a cell for the night! There are 6 base players Frank Barson, Willie Woodburn, Norman Hunter, Ron “Chopper” Harris, Wilf Copping and Tommy Smith, each with their own biography on the B side.
